Orangeburg County First Steps in collaboration with South Carolina Regional Housing Authority #3 and Orangeburg Department of Public Safety to host an Open House at St. Paul/Williams Chapel Housing Complex to celebrate our new partnership to improve the educational success of children in Orangeburg, South Carolina. It is the goal of all three agencies to increase the chances for success and overall wellness of the children and families they serve. According to Robert Thomas, Executive Director of South Carolina Regional Housing Authority #3, it is of great importance to provide children with all the necessary tools to become proficient readers before the third grade. LaMyra Sanders, Executive Director and the staff of Orangeburg County First Steps intends to utilize funds provided by the Orangeburg Calhoun Community Foundation to provide literacy services through academic engagement, literacy through technology, family literacy and onsite literacy services provided by Orangeburg County Library. Eligible program participants should be ages 3-4 and fit additional criteria to qualify for the program.
This very important partnership was celebrated on Tuesday, March 31, 2015. Various community partners as well as residents from the St. Paul/Williams Chapel Housing Complex received valuable information about the launching of this very important initiative.
